As of 28 March 2007, all European Union citizens planning to reside in Spain for more than 3 months should register at the Oficina de Extranjeros in their province of residence or at designated Police stations. The Spanish Residency Process
To obtain residency (Residencia) in Spain, you will be issued with a Residence Certificate stating your name, address, nationality, NIE number and date of registration. European Union citizens who apply for residency in Spain may be required to produce evidence of their financial capability to support themselves, and if applicable, their dependents. In addition, you may also be required to supply proof of private or public healthcare insurance. The team at Home Finance are also able to assist you with this process if required.
If you are applying to become a permanent resident in Spain you must first register yourself on the Padrón. The Padrón is a list of all the people who live in a certain town. Empadronarse is the act of registering yourself on this list with your local town hall.
